What it does

Everything a school needs to talk to parents

One tool for the everyday work — attendance, grades, announcements, fees. The SMS goes out automatically; parents read it on their phones.

Daily attendance + auto-SMS

Mark students absent or present. Parents of absent students get an SMS the moment you save. No follow-up calls.

Grades — single or bundled

Record one grade or many at once. Parents receive one tidy SMS with the term, score, and class average — held until 5 PM so the family is together when the conversation lands. If a result misses its day, it's never sent stale; the system tells you exactly which ones expired.

ሰላም! የአቤል በቀለ የሒሳብ ውጤት 76/100 ነው (Term 1)። የክፍሉ አማካኝ: 72። — Bole Primary School
One bundled SMS — even when you record many subjects at once.

School-wide announcements

Exam dates, holidays, parent meetings. One message reaches every family. Schedule events with the Ethiopian calendar.

Fee reminders

Track who's paid and who hasn't. Send a polite reminder SMS to families with outstanding fees, in their language.

Per-parent language

Set each parent's preferred language once — Amharic or English. Every SMS they receive uses it.

Roster + bulk import

Add students one by one or upload a CSV from your existing roster. Section by section, grade by grade.

Your first day

Five steps to your first parent SMS

Sign up in the morning, parents get their first message before the bell rings.

  1. 1

    Sign up your school

Three minutes — school name, license, principal phone. Free for 14 days, up to 300 SMS. No card up front.

  2. 2

    Verify your phone

We text you a 6-digit code. Type it in. That's the only login security a school principal should ever have to think about.

  3. 3

    Add classes and students

Set your grade levels and sections, then upload your roster CSV — common columns like Guardian or Mother phone are auto-matched.

  4. 4

    Invite your teachers

Share a private join link with each teacher. You pick the classes and subjects they teach. They set a password and they're in.

  5. 5

    First SMS goes out

The next attendance, grade, or note lands on parents' phones — Amharic, on the phone they already own, no app needed.

Who does what

Three roles, simple and separate

The principal sets things up once. Teachers handle the daily flow. Parents just receive SMS — there's nothing for them to install.

FAQ

Common questions

Do parents need to download an app? +
No. Temhirt sends regular SMS to the parent's phone number. It works on every Ethiopian phone — feature phone or smartphone, any carrier.
Can teachers and the principal use it together? +
Yes. Principals see all classes; teachers only see the classes and subjects they're assigned to. Each teacher's grading screen is filtered to what they actually teach.
How do parents know which message is from our school? +
By default SMS arrives from the Easymaz platform sender. When your school is ready, we register your school's own name as the sender ID — parents see your school's name on every message.
Can I send messages in Amharic to some parents and English to others? +
Yes. Each parent has a language preference (Amharic by default). The same announcement goes out in Amharic to most parents and in English to those who picked English — automatically.
How do we pay? +
Through Chapa — Telebirr, CBE, mobile money, all major Ethiopian payment methods. Pay once per term; we never auto-charge you.
Is there a limit on how many SMS we can send? +
School Pass includes 5,000 SMS per month and 1,000 per day — comfortably enough for a school of 800 students sending daily attendance plus a few weekly announcements. If you need more in a month, buy a top-up bundle: 1,000 extra SMS for 850 ETB. Top-up credits never expire until used.
What about Ethiopian Calendar dates — does the system understand them? +
Yes. Every date picker — holidays, exam schedules, term boundaries — shows both the Ethiopian and Gregorian calendars side by side. Months default to Ethiopian for principals; switch to Gregorian with one click. Parents in SMS see whichever calendar your school sets as primary.
Will SMS still go through during power cuts or internet outages at the school? +
SMS is sent through Ethiopia's national SMS gateway, not the open internet, so a parent on Ethio Telecom or Safaricom receives it as long as their phone has signal — even on 2G in rural areas. If your school's internet is down when you compose the message, queue it from a phone hotspot; once submitted it's our responsibility to deliver.
Can we send messages for things other than grades and attendance — fees, exams, parent meetings? +
Yes. The Announcements composer handles any kind of message: term-fee reminders, exam dates, parent-meeting invitations, school-closure alerts, holiday wishes. Templates speed up the messages you send every term so you're not retyping the same wording each time.
How long does setup take? Do we need an IT person on staff? +
Most schools go from signup to first SMS in under 30 minutes. Upload your student list (CSV or paste in), assign teachers to classes, pick a template, send. The interface is built for principals — no IT background required. If you want help importing student records, email support and we'll do the first import for you.
When exactly do parents receive each kind of message? +
Different message types follow rules tuned to when they actually help: attendance ('Liya wasn't in school today') goes out the moment the teacher saves and is dropped if it can't reach the parent the same day. Grades and teacher notes wait until 5 PM so the family is together when the SMS lands. Announcements and fee reminders send within the 6 AM–9 PM window. If anything can't deliver inside its relevance window — power outage, daily cap, gateway hiccup — the system never ships stale news; expired messages are recorded in the SMS log so you know exactly what was held back, and parents only get fresh, actionable SMS.
